Trask | Family

I really wish I could hug each person that reads this blog post because then you could really get a feel for what it's like to spend time with the Trask's. Hanging out with them feels like one big hug. This family has so much joy, life, thoughtfulness, and laughter that my words honestly cannot do them justice.

If I were to make a list of influential people in my life, Debbie would for sure come to mind. She and Todd are incredible examples of what it looks like to truly live your life for Christ and how that plays out in parenting. If Mike and I are half the parents they are to Brittany and Michael, Liam will turn out just fine!

Speaking of incredible, meet Brittany. This girl has a heart for the Lord and an energy that is SO infectious! She is living proof that you really can love teenagers!

Michael is the strong and stoic type. An amazing guy who is focused, dedicated, but tons of fun too!

Thank you Todd, Debbie, Brittany, and Michael for being a part of our lives! You are a blessing to anyone that knows you! It really is a privilege to call you friends!

Chris & Colleen | Maternity

Chris and Colleen. Colleen and Chris. Their names go together like peanut butter and jelly. Colleen is a dear friend of mine and former roommate from college. When we met, she and Chris were already engaged, so I've never known anything but the two of them together. I don't think I know a couple that balances each other's personalities as beautifully as Chris and Colleen. She is determined, fiercely loyal, strong, and yet has a surprising hilarious side that rounds her out perfectly. Chris is lighthearted, caring, and has the most infectious laugh I've ever heard. He seriously needs to be entered into some kind of Greatest Laugh of the World competition because he'd win hands down!

But now, it won't just be Chris and Colleen. In just a few days, it will be Chris, Colleen, and...Baby Button. Did I forget to mention that Colleen is also a little stubborn? : ) She and Chris have decided to keep the baby's name a secret until he's born. So until that wonderful day, we all affectionately call him Baby Button.

I took a trip to Kansas City for Colleen's baby shower and maternity pictures. It was a great weekend filled with laughter, reminiscing about old memories, and me tearing up over feeling Baby Button move. Embarrassing, but true.

Chris's sister bought Baby Button this Superman outfit. A-maz-ing.

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!

Colleen's best friend Melissa hosted the baby shower. Against her will, Colleen pressed Melissa's hand against her pregnant belly! Did I forget to mention Colleen is a little mischievous as well? : )

Chris and Colleen, I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of Button! He is already so so loved! Thank you for your friendship and letting me be a part of this special time in your life! Love you guys!

Largent | Family

I loved watching The Brady Bunch when I was a kid. The episode where Marsha gets hit in the face with a football will forever be a classic in my mind. The Largent family is your modern day Brady Bunch, except much cooler and without the unsuccessful singing career!

Love love love!!!

A traditional sibling picture!

This is sweet Hannah. Hannah and her brother Ryan were in the Realife lifegroup that meets at my house every week. Unfortunately, the group is only for students in 6th-8th grade, and since I couldn't stop them from getting older, they're now in a high school lifegroup. Hannah is interested in photography, so I gave her my other camera to let her experiment!

After she took her first picture (which was her first time using a DSLR camera) I said, "Didn't that feel good?" and she looked at me wide-eyed and said, "It really did!" A future photog in the making!

We may or may not have gotten yelled at by an old lady while taking this shot...I promise, no trees were harmed in the making of these pictures!

Largent family, it was an honor to get to know each of you! Your love for each other is so bright! You truly are an example of what an incredible family looks like!

What's For Dinner? | Spaghetti Casserole

The night before Mike and I got married we were at the church decorating with our families. If you've read the story of how Mike and I fell in love, you know that it was not your typical scenario. I had only met his parents once before our wedding...and it was at our wedding shower. Crazy, but true. Somehow the conversation shifted to his incredible mother, Jo, telling me a story of one of the times they were running from a hurricane. Since they lived in Florida, evacuating due to hurricane conditions was fairly common. Jo went on to tell me that she made steak, mashed potatoes, and corn in their hotel room using a single hot plate and a coffee pot. A coffee pot, people! Mike, his sister, and dad all chimed in to testify as to how amazing of a meal it was. My soon-to-be mother-in-law was MacGyver and Martha Stewart rolled into one sweet Southern woman!

I would be lying if I said I didn't panic a little. Surely this isn't the kind of cooking Mike expects, right? At that point my culinary tool belt consisted of the skills to make cereal and to not burn popcorn 85% of the time. I could bake like nobody's business, but apparently a newlywed couple cannot survive on brownies alone.

Thankfully, our first year of marriage Mike did all the cooking. And I mean ALL. Though my stirring skills shot through the roof! But then I graduated from college and we bought a house. It didn't make sense for Mike to work all day and come home and cook when I was perfectly capable of doing so.

Enter: my love affair with the Crock Pot.

Over the past 3 years I've fallen deeper in love with this ceramic bowl of awesomeness. It lets me cook without burning the house down, feeds my family, and doesn't stress me out. Everyone wins. Sometimes I go so far as to meal plan for the month, but I'll save that for another blog entry.

Recently people have been asking for Crock Pot recipes, so I thought this blog would be a lovely place to share some of my favorites. Because honestly, what's better then sitting on the couch while you're cooking dinner?

This recipe comes from the "Southern Living Slow-Cooker Cookbook"
Spaghetti Casserole

1 1/2 lbs ground beef (we used turkey)
1 medium onion, chopped
1 (26 ounce) jar tomato and basil pasta sauce (or whatever you have on hand)
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk (I used regular milk and it turned out fine)
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon pepper
8 ounces uncooked spaghetti, broken into pieces
3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese (I don't use quite that much)
Grated Parmesan cheese

-Cook ground beef and onion in a large skillet, stirring until beef crumbles and is no longer pink; drain meat, and return to skillet. Stir pasta sauce into beef mixture.
-Melt butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat; whisk in flour until smooth. Cook 1 minute, whisking constantly. Gradually whisk in milk; cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, 8 minutes or until mixture is thickened and bubbly. Remove from heat, and stir in 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese and pepper.
-Spoon one-third of meat mixture into a lightly greased 5-quart slow cooker. Spread half of broken spaghetti over meat; pour half of white sauce over noodles, and sprinkle with 1 cup cheddar cheese. Repeat layers once. Spread remaining meat mixture over cheese. Top with remaining 1 cup of cheddar.
-Cover and cook on low 4 hours. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Serve with Parmesan cheese. Makes 6-8 servings.

This may not be the prettiest dish in the world, but man is it good! Mike got seconds and sweet Liam asked for more...twice!

Let me know if you try the recipe and like it! Happy Stress-Free Cooking!

Meggan & Ryan | Wedding Rehearsal

When you hear the story of how Meggan and Ryan met and fell in love there is one common thread that binds it all together...they waited on the Lord. They spent time in prayer and sought the counsel of trusted friends before pursuing a relationship. Once they started dating it didn't take long for Ryan to realize he wanted Meggan to be in his life forever.

They got married at the beautiful Big Cedar Lodge near Branson. Since the Lodge provides an in-house photographer for the ceremony, I got to take pictures of all the super fun stuff- the wedding rehearsal and Meggan getting ready to see her groom! It was great getting to know this couple and seeing their tender love for one another!

After the rehearsal, everyone boarded pontoon boats and headed over to a chuck wagon dinner where Meggan planned every detail to make sure all of their family and friends were appreciated and had a great time!

The day of the wedding was filled with laughter and friends as everyone helped Meggan get ready!

Fall leaves and bling bling, these are two of my favorite things!

I don't think I have adequate words to describe how stunning Meggan looks in these next pictures!

Meggan and Ryan, thank you SO much for allowing me to be a part of your beautiful wedding! I wish you both nothing but many years of happiness and may you always look to the Lord for wisdom, just as you did to find each other!

The Stocktons | Family

One of the best parts of my job is when I start the photo shoot by meeting new clients, but leave with new friends. That's exactly how I feel about the Stockton family. We're like peanut butter and jelly. French fries and ice cream. Ok, now I'm hungry, but I truly fell in love with this family! They embody everything that a family should be- laughter, love, and fun!

Mitchell and Bobbi haven't had pictures taken of themselves since they got married. This should be a crime! You all are fabulous!

Thank you for letting me spend time having fun with your family! You are the BEST!
